How to Put OPT on Your Resume (Without Getting Filtered)

5 min read

Work authorization is the single most asked-about line for F-1 students. Get it wrong and an ATS can silently drop you; get it right and you signal 'ready to start now'.

Use a clear line such as 'Authorized to work in the US via F-1 OPT (valid through MM/YYYY)' near the top of your resume, just under your name or in a short 'Work Authorization' section.

For STEM OPT, name it explicitly and include your E-Verify eligibility if relevant. Avoid vague phrases like 'will require sponsorship' unless you truly do — it can trigger a filter even when you are fully authorized.

Relocalize detects a missing authorization line and suggests compliant wording tuned to your visa type.
